Child’s watercolour of Pennoyer’s School

Welcome to Kids' Pennoyers – pages about Pennoyer's School, its history and so on, especially for children. Some of the information on these pages is written for kids, but quite a bit is written by kids too.

Pennoyer's School has been empty for 20 years, and it's falling down. It's right in the middle of Pulham St Mary, a small village in South Norfolk. Since the school closed, people have tried to find a new use for it, but until quite recently, none of the ideas really worked. The problem was that any new use for the building had to be able to pay for itself once the building was converted.

At last, a new use has been found that does work. We're planning to open it as a Village Centre – like a Village Hall but with lots more rooms and much more to do, open all day, every day. Of course, the money's got to be found to pay for the conversion, so a project team is working hard to get grants and donations to make it happen. We've already got nearly £1million from the Heritage Lottery Fund, so we're almost there.

When the Village Centre opens, it will have lots for children and teenagers to enjoy. There's not much for kids to do in the village at the moment – there's a playing field outside the village and a playground near the centre, but that's about it. We hope the Village Centre will change all that – somewhere to go for clubs, an Internet café, even just somewhere to hang out.

In this section, you can find out more about Pennoyer's School and its history, and there's also a bit about the airships that used to be based in our village. You can have a go at some online puzzles, and you can take a look at the Kidz Pennoyer's magazine that Class 4 at Pulham Primary School produced in 2007.
