American Modernism Art History Talks – July

Tania Harrington is back with a series of 6 two hour talks about the development of art in America.

July’s talk is: Social Realism 1930’s and beyond

Social Realism prevailed throughout the Modern period in the States in both rural and metropolitan contexts. We look at artists such as Edward Hopper and Grant Wood who portrayed the loneliness and insecurity of life during and after the Great Depression.

4. Thursday 19 September – Art of the New Deal (1930s)

5. Thursday 24 October – Abstraction and Abstract Expressionism (1950s and beyond)
